Local Form: Dave Juric

We chat to a decade-long veteran of the Melbourne scene…

There is a passion for music, and then there is Dave Juric. If you judged an artist by their dedication to their craft and local scene, Dave would be guilty as charged every time.

An active member of Melbourne’s local scene, he received his start with Darkbeat well over ten years ago now, and since then has gone on to become a mainstay on many of the city’s best events. Alongside running the Mahala and recently launched Little Robot events, he also does writing for various publications including the UK’s Change Underground site.

But it is commanding the dance floor where he really shines, a skill which has led him to warm up for many of the worlds best from Guy J to Stacey Pullen to Hernan Cattaneo. His intuitive approach has also seen him awarded with a placing in Red Bull’s Top 10 Mixes of the Year in 2015.

Ahead of his set at the upcoming Day Doof, we caught up with him to find out what track is currently tickling him the best and which classic track we really should re-visit…

Classic: Hugg & Pepp – Snabeln

‘Last week I got to play at Darkbeat’s 15th Bday with Danny Tenaglia and got paired up with the big boss Rollin Connection for a 3am garden bar set. I hadn’t played with him for a while now and wanted to dig deep to find some on those forgotten gems from the last 15 yeas and opened with this one. Quirky electoey trancey number from John & Jasper Dahlbäck from 2005. This was one of the Gavin Keitel classics that used to get rinsed at Brown Alley back in the day that I have these awesome & hazy memories of from when I first started going clubbing. Was really nice to revisit as I hadn’t heard in years.’

udmo - Slow Day (Albrecht La'Brooy's Friday Arvo Knock Off)

‘I recently bought the vinyl of this release from Max down at Alley Tunes as a gift for a mate of mine. I was basically just looking for some down tempo stuff and he handed me this straight away. Every track on the EP is dope, but this remix is just super cool. Will definitely play this at Day Doof in my opening set. Intricate details, lots of warmth but nice n restrained. I believe udmo is a Melbourne dude too which is pretty cool. Keen to check out more of his stuff.
