Revolver Sundays Announce A New Resident DJ

Brian Fantana Is Set For A Weekly Spot In The Cage...

For many punters, Sundays at Revolver are far more important than breakfast. With that in mind, the resident DJs have to know what they are doing, and it is expected from them to deliver a nutritious start to the day: they have to know their clientele, what to deliver, and when to deliver it. This isn’t some two-bit Deliveroo operation; this is some high-quality gourmet, prompt delivery shit. And the residents run the program.

Currently, the Revolver gatekeepers include some of Melbourne’s most well-known selectors: Boogs, Spacey Space, Silversix, T-Rek and Radiator. They are the proverbial Knights of the Roundtable and have been for years; getting a seat at that table is nigh on impossible. Then again, no one ever thought Melbourne Bounce would become a thing, but it did, and guess what, we have a new addition to the roster of Revolver residents.

Enter stage right Brian Fantana, the Irishman who is pretty much an honorary Australian. He has been a card-carrying Revs member for ten years now, and has clocked in more miles on that dancefloor than a Melbourne to Dublin Qantas flight. His persistence and dance moves have paid off, and the Revolver Sundays Roundtable had to order another chair with the news of the latest addition: Brian Fantana.

We sent Brian some questions to celebrate with him, so make a tea, have a read and celebrate your new resident:

Hi Brian, thank you for you're time and congrats on the residency! We have to ask, before you came to Australia did you know much about the club?

No, I had literally just turned 21 and jumped on the plane for a year Holiday, the moment I got to Melbourne I was hooked especially after making my first trip up the stairs of Revs!

Nice, we think that is how the majority of new visitors experience Melbourne. Is there a club in your home town that can be called the Irish Revolver?

There is a club in Belfast called Thompsons Garage, while I cant compare it anywhere to Revs, this place is certainly an institution for electronic music. It’s been around for over 20 years and when I was old enough I would make my way into the city and have some of my best early clubbing experiences there.

Nice, we’ll check it out. Talking about early clubbing experiences, if Brian of 10 years ago were to play a set at Revolver Sundays today, what 3 tunes can we expect to hear?

Anything by Jay Lumen, Sebastien Leger or Format B!

Good choices. So how many Revs hours do you reckon you clocked up to get a residency?

How longs a piece of string? Hahah! Na, it's not so much about hours clocked, I mean, yes, I literally couldn’t comprehend the amount of time spent over the years, but it's more so that I love everything it stood for as an institution and built friendships with everyone that works there. From the bar staff to security guards to one of my dearest, Boogs, who saw how strong my passion for the scene and venue were. To the point where I would get a text at 4 am to cover his infamous 7-10am slot on many occasion.

Nice. So following up from the above question, what has been your favourite Revolver event out of all those hours?

Man, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve said ‘that’s the best I’ve ever seen Revolver'… I would probably have about $150 haha. One night that definitely stands out is the first time Late Nite Tuff Guy/DJ HMC played. I have seen so many amazing acts play there who have raised the roof, but what he did over the space of 3 hours was truly amazing, going from disco all the way through to full relentless techno by the end of his set. I have never seen the club vibe so hard!

Fuck yeah, it’s all about the journey hey. If you could choose one song that comes to mind when someone mentions the club what would it be?

So difficult, but the most iconic I feel is ‘Rippin Kittin’, although my personal favourite is Silversix’s remix of ‘Clockworks’.

Which of your fellow residents would you choose for the following and why?

Spacey: who wouldn’t love him!

Tarek (T-Rek): and then leg it when its time for the bill :P (Sorry T haha)

Boogs: he only ever asks the store assistants “gimme the stuff everyone else doesn’t want” haha. Without ever having to tell me, he taught me it's not always about the track you play, but the way you play it.

Haha definitely Radiator

Also Boogs, as when you get him going he's the best value!! Silversix is also a great wingman, though I can't keep up with him haha!

Catch Brian Fantana every Sunday for a sesh at Revolver Sundays.
