Local Form: Philosophia

Philosophia.jpg

Philosophia proves that music is a language of emotion from which she speaks fluently to her listeners…

Led by a distinct ability to carve colourful paths through dance floors and conjure up seriously funky, foot-stomping soundscapes, New Zealand born artist Philosophia’s penchant for crafting multidimensional sets retains gravity long after her last track has been played. Her Philosophy of music is deeply rooted in the more tribal realms, which are mixed through a psychedelic cauldron of funk, soul & hypnotic chants. Behind the decks, she leads with her heart and infectious joie de vivre. Each thoughtfully-crafted soundscape is an invitation to let go of your mind and come to your senses: to a place where cathartic release and a sense of play are pulled together by the same gravitational force. Ahead of her performance at the sold-out Stavroz show, the intuitive artist sent us three pivotal tracks close to her heart…

classic track:

Mark farina - Dream Machine

‘This track has been circulating my playlists for the last 15 years - still going strong.’

First track:

Dario G - Sunchyme

‘Apart from hearing Eurythmics pumping out in the early '90s, it was this track that first captivated my attention and attracted me to electronic music. It moved me, I had never heard an arrangement like it before. It was the beginning for me then, prompting all my Christmas lists to include electronic compilations.’

Current:

Darkside - Paper Trails (2013)

‘This was hard to pick, as I always have so many new and old tracks on the go. I thought if I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be one I play often. This one circulates on the weekly and has done for the last few years. I don’t think I could ever unhear the combination and depth of Nico’s voice and Dave Harrington's tawdry guitar slides.’
