Red Axes Take Inspiration From Ho Chi Minh

Red Axes release the second volume of their Trips series…

What happens when you add Red Axes to Vietnam? Some bloody good tunes. The Israeli duo has been on the road getting inspired by the sights and sounds of different countries and cultures, recording local musicians and making some highly addictive tunes. A year ago, they took to Africa for some inspiration, which you can be view here, and they just released the results from their time in Vietnam. And if the tracks are anything to go by, they must’ve had a bloody good time putting it all together.

‘Ho Chi Minh’ is a doozy, a clash of cultures between Vietnamese musicians and Chicago Deep House. The track itself is a patchwork of local Thai vocals, sounds and instruments that are stretched, delayed and worked into a lather. They appear and disappear, strings giving way to xylophones, which in turns give way to pianos, which in turns give way to choirs; all interacting flawlessly with each other like good ideas inside a daydream. Think about that beachside cafe where you can laze back and drink a cold local beer, no doubt this is the sounds you will hear over the bar speakers.
