Function Announce New Album And Tour

‘Existenz’ has been four years in the making…

New York's Function, AKA Dave Sumner, is one of the most venerable names in all of techno. As one part of the Sandwell District collective, he helped redefine techno in a way that still rings clear today. After the parting of that project, Sumner was introduced as one-third of new techno supergroup LSD alongside Luke Slater and Steve Bicknell. Earlier this year that project also spawned a new label of the same name. It is his solo work, however, which has been the most enduring, collecting a discography of work that is equally impressive and effective.

So if you are a fan of his solo work, it is time to rejoice. Alongside his return to Australia for a series of dates, he will also be releasing a sophomore solo album entitled 'Existenz' through techno staple Tresor Records. Not to be confused with the mildly popular 1998 sci-fi thriller of the same name, 'Existenz' will feature recordings made between 2016–2019. And according to the press release that period seems to have been a catharsis of sorts for the producer, 'Existence' acting as 'a reaction to traumas Function had during all his life… 'Existence' is about religion, sexuality, healing, and liberation.

Ahead of his tour Tresor shared a video teaser of ‘Existenz’ sourcing clips from New York's cable-television era of the 80/90s and featuring short excerpts of the album in the background.
