They say a pandemic is as good a time as ever to kick your entrepreneurial skills into gear and build an empire. Look, I’m not sure if that’s exactly what they say, but it’s what they do. This can be said for global businesses Uber, Pinterest, and Instagram, all of which were found amidst the 2008 recession. The latest enterprise that has arisen from the ashes of a global crisis, is the WIP Project, created and founded by Melbourne artists DJ Sarah, and Floss Dogg.

Both highly respected DJs and creative pioneers in their own regard, DJ Sarah and Floss Dogg are both renowned for the relentless promotion and support of female, GNC, non-binary, POC, and minority communities within the music industry. Originally spawned from a Google spreadsheet that DJ Sarah created to recommend and promote female and GNC artists, the WIP Project takes that concept to an entirely different level:

“We wholeheartedly believe that until there is equality in the opportunities that members of the community are given, we must take conscious steps to uplift female and GNC talent.”

Including categories of involvement within the Australian music industry, the WIP Project acts as a free user-based database that lists DJs, producers, bookers, managers, agents and door hosts, alongside what genres they align with, where they are located, and links to their platforms. If you’re a female or GNC artist based in Australia, hop to it and register yourself on their website, it takes no longer than 2 minutes. Oh, and the next time you’re looking to diversify your music intake and need a mix to rock out to, look no further.
