Two Melbourne powerhouses join forces to create a label promoting diversity and inclusion…

Rising from the ashes, of a particularly shitty 2020, Melbourne is now giddily rolling through the sea of passion projects and releases born from time spent in lockdown. The latest fruits of iso-labour come in the form of Millú & Pjenne’s collaborative record label Companion - and yes thank you very much, that’s just what we ordered.

Whether you’ve seen them perform together at Boiler Room’s Sugar Mountain, Golden Plains or Freedom Time, Millú & Pjenne can undoubtedly be considered one of the most iconic Melbourne collaborators on the scene. More iconic than Bonnie & Clyde, Shaggy & Scooby, and even more iconic than these two.

Both individually or combined, their list of career accolades is impressive. Having just celebrated her 200th episode of the incredibly Passing Notes on PBS, Pjenne’s sonic signature explores bass, percussion and ambience. Not afraid to jump across 20bpms with ease, Pjenne is renowned for presenting the kind of music you have to be an extremely experienced digger to discover. Millú showcases her beautifully varied output on Triple R’s Full Circle show, and Dischord on Skylab Radio. Presenting left of field dance music that explores textures, rhythms and ambience, Millú has the ability to make so many varying sounds and genres sound quintessential to her own style.

‘Companion shifts the emphasis away from the dancefloor and turns to your inner world - this is music for home-listening, for contemplation, introspection and sonic meditation.’

Both a part of the inimitable WAT Artists family, their combined creative pursuits are reason to pay close (very very close) attention. A label dedicated to showcasing and celebrating diversity within dance music, Millú & Pjenne’s unified core ethos is one that champions artists from varying backgrounds. ‘Rooted firmly in ethereal ambient techno and psychedelic IDM’ the label’s output is expected to embody the sonic love child of Millú and Pjenne’s output. And what a love child this will be.

Having just announced the launch of their label with a delicious open-air party, book them in for a boogie on Saturday 27th of Feb, and keep your eyes peeled on their debut release coming soon.
