PREMIERE: FOURA Remixes m8riarchy's 'Never Drop'

Two powerhouse Melburnian creatives have melded minds for 3 and a half minutes of chuggy UKG bliss…

Individually, both FOURA and m8riarchy have asserted a solid space for themselves within the local industries list of well-loved names. Combined, their collaborative brain-child lends itself beautifully to each other’s output, whilst remaining uniquely incomparable to anything else currently being released within Melbourne. And what a collaboration this one is. Pay close attention, we’ve got your next binge-worthy bop on lock…

Through many different alias’s, FOURA has made her mark on the Melbourne music scene for years now. A well-versed producer and DJ, Amy AKA FOURA has graced stages at Let Them Eat Cake, Picnik Elektronic, Beyond The Valley, Falls Festival + every club within ‘burn city. Having recently signed to NLV Records, she’s leaning into showcasing her skills as a producer, and her output which sits somewhere between bass, electronic, UKG, and 2-step, packs one hell of a punch in nearly any context you can think of. Da club, da late-night car ride, in da shower. All the contexts.

Enter stage right - m8riarchy. A singer, songwriter, sound engineer, and music producer who has turned heads within the last year with her stunningly unique output. Apart from her well-tuned skills within the studio, the quality that really elevates m8riarchy is her vocals. Comparative to that of any renowned 90s RnB songstress, she harbours a Jorja Smith-esque warmth to her voice that sets her apart from all other live performers within Naarm. Enchanting in both its vulnerability and strength, it toes the line between delicate nostalgia, and a downright powerhouse.

‘I wanted to push the remix into a slightly different direction whilst keeping that same fun spirit as the original. UKG inspired drum patterns and late-night bass carrying it through to the dancefloor just as the original intends. I made it for dancefloors and driving around in droptops’ - FOURA

Having released her ‘Never Drop’ EP back in February, FOURA’s remix of m8riarchy’s latest original is prime listening for the dance floor. A sub-heavy bassline and tightly knit hat percussion bounce behind m8riarchy’s soaring vocals. The songstresses vocal takes are paired perfectly with a warm synth line. The entire song leaves enough breathing room for both FOURA and m8riarchy’s strengths to shine through, and will have you feeling like you’re driving through empty city streets on a hot summer night with the windows down, only to stop in a deserted car park overlooking the city to contemplate life. A specific context, sure, but listen to the whole thing and just TRY to tell me that it DOESN’T sound like that. That’s what I thought.

‘Never Drop celebrates how we evolve together. It is an ode to the community, shared space and heaving dancefloors that allowed me the freedom to express myself.’ - m8riarchy

The track drops today, and is sure to get spun from Naarm’s finest range of DJs. You can support the artists directly by grabbing a copy from Bandcamp. And make sure to turn it up loud.
