Six For One: Blond:ish
Currently in Australia for a series of dates, we caught up with Blond:ish’s Vivie-ann to chat some tunes…
One of our favourite acts in the world are the Canadian duo of Blond:ish. Their debut album on Kompakt, ‘Welcome to the Past’, is one of the more underrated albums to be released in 2015, a wonderful ride through downtempo, house and deeper techno that is wrapped in a cocoon of South American spirituality. It’s really simple: whenever they release a DJ set, we listen. Whenever they produce something, we click play. So yeah, we are big fans…. enough of us, over to you Vivie-ann…
A track that made us want to be DJs:
Lil Louis - French Kiss
‘The journey of a simple loop through all sorts of ups, slow-downs, sex and everything else just made total sense for my 0s and 1s type logic and creative brain.’
This track makes us think of Afrikaburn:
Dire straits - So Far Away
‘I’ve never actually been - ‘cause it’s so far away! Hence my choice for this one haha.’
The track that got the biggest reaction from our Burning Man set this year:
Foreigner - ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’ (Blond:ish edit)
‘You can hear it at the end of our Burning Man set, I made it especially for our sunrise set at Robot Heart.’
Our favourite Alan Watts talk:
Allan Watts - It Starts Now
‘It Starts Now’ is the the one we used on our album, ‘Welcome to the Past’ :)
The track from our album Welcome to the Present that is particularly special to us:
Blond:ish - Nada Brahma
‘I love ‘Nada Brahma’. The way it tells a story; it was really special making this one in the jungles and cenotes of Tulum.’
The biggest track of the Ibiza season this year: for us:
Pitto - Feelin (District One's Feelin' Techno Remix)
‘It is a classic and It went off everywhere on the island this summer... I rinsed it a bunch to take the dance floor up a notch” Woomoon, Black Coffee @ Hi! and Circoloco…’
