It has been a while since Maceo has joined us in Australia, in fact, he cancelled his last two tours (come on mate), but if it’s any consolation, he has been keeping busy. And by the sounds of it, we probably won’t see him for a while as he just announced three new projects to keep him busy.

In December his new label MPLX will see the light of day; his electro-focussed label Lone Romantic (fresh from releasing Sydney producer Jensen Interceptor’s debut album) will launch a new series called ‘Regenerator’, and Spanish producer ORBE will make his debut on Ellum's sub-label Ellum Black (this follows Orbe’s debut on Lone Romantic last summer).

The new label MPLX (Maceo PLeX… nice) will serve as an exclusive platform for his releases. We’ve heard some promo clips of the first release ‘Mutant Romance’, and it’s vintage Maceo, or as the presser puts it: ‘a double-dose of warm, wistful dancefloor bumpers that will last long after its first hearing’. Amen to that.

On the other hand, ’Regenerator’ is the new Lone Romantic series which will reissue forgotten electro gems. Kicking off the series with a three-tracker by DJ Emile (originally in 1997 on the now-defunct Swell Records imprint), the series will aim to ‘search and restore the glories of electro records that have been unheard of for far too long.’ And with electro’s recent resurgence this is very well-timed.

And finally, after a recent outing on Hivern Discs, ORBE will release an EP on Ellum Black, a three track release which will ‘function with a distinct flavour for all three tunes’, promising to be ‘effective for dancefloor use at different times throughout the night’. This follows the huge EP from Architectural released on Ellum Black two months ago.

Based on the above it sounds like Maceo is looking to end the year on a high - now if only he can let us finish the year on a high by announcing his Australian return.

Maceo Plex ‘Mutant Romance’ will be released on the 7th December through MPLX. ORBE ‘Excited’ EP will be released on the 7th December through Ellum Black.

DJ Emile ‘Beast From The Middle East’ will be released on the 14th of December through Lone Romantic.
