Arno and Walter of Booka Shade boast an intimidatingly extensive resume. Having remixed for the likes of Depeche Mode, Moby, and Hot Chip, and headline sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Tomorrowland, saying they’re extremely well versed would be an understatement. And whether releasing works on their imprint record label Get Physical, or featuring on some of the biggest industry labels such as Blaufield, and Systematic, they show no sign of slowing down more than 20 years on.
When you think of Booka Shade, you think of a few distinct sonic elements. Hypnotic swelling synthesizers, wide spread percussion, a strong hook, all tied together in a neat little package. And whether you label this package an electronic act, a little deep housier, or titans within the realm of techno, they remain refreshingly forward thinking whilst remaining consistent with their signature sound.
Their latest track ‘I Go, I Go’ released in collaboration with Kaktus Einarsson is no exception. Being released on Blaufield record label, this track at a comfortable 122bpm is just the thing you need to get you through your mid week blues. Featuring a choppy distorted synthesizer, a sub heavy melodic bassline, and softly reverberated vocals, the project as a whole is a strong continuation to their latest EP Rosebud released at the end of 2018, and an excellent precursor to their upcoming Australia/NZ tour.
