T3Y: George FitzGerald

George FitzGerald can be described as a musical chameleon - and we bloody love him for it…

Whether listening to his earlier deep house/UK garage-infused productions, like the 2010 jam ‘The Let Down’, or the electronic pop of his 2015 release ‘Full Circle’, he remains at the forefront of Europe’s dance music scene no matter which sound he delves into. From Bonobo, to Moby, Kimbra and Jon Hopkins, the UK born, Berlin-based DJ and producer have collaborated with a vast and impressive array of musicians, all the while maintaining the quintessential FitzGerald sound.

What exactly is that sound? One that encompasses clean cut percussion, soft dreamy ambient synthesizers, and a kind of laid-back and nostalgic dance-floor sensibility. And although his musical prowess usually has him playing live sets (he’s well versed in a variety of instruments), his upcoming DJ set at smalltown alongside Axel Boman and Tom Trago should satiate fans expectations. So as a strong second feature of our Top 3 Youtube series, let’s take a look and see what YouTube is currently rating as George FitzGerald’s most popular work…

  1. GEORGE FITZGERALD in The Lab LDn

Mr FitzGerald asserts his industry status immediately as we click enter on our Youtube searches. A 1 hour set at The Lab LDN? Yes please? After a cheeky introduction that pays notice to FitzGerald’s debut album ‘Fading Love’ and his collaborative endeavours, he guides us through a set complete with all the electronic flavours we’ve come to love him for, i.e. his original track ‘Burns’ and some heavier songs such as ‘Tantrum’ by Throwing Snow. This is perhaps the most perfect of precursors to his upcoming smalltown show…

2. George FitzGerald - Burns (Official Audio)

This tune is truly iconic. I’m talking instantly recognisable - refreshingly unique - track of the year iconic. Released on Double Six record label, and having remixes by Moby and Lane 8, ‘Burns’ is a beautifully melodic dance track, from the pitched vocal sample, right through to the arpeggiated bass-line, the 1 million plays on Youtube along might coin this track FitzGerald’s best work yet.

3. Scuba b2b George Fitzgerald Boiler Room London DJ Set

FitzGerald teams up with fellow UK alumni Scuba here, for a Boiler Room so epic, it completely shatters the idea you thought you had of George FitzGerald and rebuilds him as a dirty deep house techno wizard. Don’t know where the hell those 35 down votes came from, but they most certainly pale in comparison to the 237,000 views, of which we at form probably comprise a thousand or two…. Set peak? Wrapping up the 70-minute ensemble with none other than ‘Vogue’ by Madonna….
