The Silk' EP

Heads down; lost in a trance; feeling the vibe; let the music take control… whatever the phrase is, we’re talking about that moment on the dancefloor when you are completely mindful and n the moment, and so zen you could probably pass off as a Buddhist monk. Not many artists can make you reach that stage, but Germany’s Recondite does it every time without breaking a sweat.

His music oozes brooding energy; dark and heavy kicks, thick and flowing basslines that wraps the listener like a warm blanket on a cold night, and synth lines glazed in mystery. That is the theme he re-visits on his upcoming four track EP ‘Silk’, to be released on Scuba’s Hotflush Records.

On the vinyl-only ‘Skeletal’, Recondite favours a bare bones approach that might seem devoid of a bassline yet delivers a bucketload of groove. The thick-as-bricks bassline and warm kick of ‘Pour’ has all the hallmarks of another Recondite classic: A despondent synth wrapped in radio noise is lost in space, a distress signal waiting to be picked up. Heady stuff indeed.

The huge ‘Channel’ wouldn’t sound out of place on Berghain’s sweaty main floor, the bass hangs around like a dark cloud holding back a major thunderstorm. On ‘Silk’, the German shows his playful side for once with an almost, dare we say it, funky’ sounding bassline that is sexy and brazen in equal spades.

The press release describes this as ‘four melancholic tracks of eyes-down dancefloor pressure’; we say it is four melancholic tracks of eyes-down dancefloor bliss.

Release date is the 15th of February through Hotflush Records.
