Local Form: Rev Lon

From the darkened corner of an inner city bar, with not much more then a few candles illuminating an entrancing dance floor, you’ll find Rev Lon

She is the Melbourne-based DJ whose unique music selections seems to continually land itself perfectly between the softer tones of disco and funk, and the much heavier tech-house elements that captivate her crowds well into the early hours of the morning. Having played alongside the likes of international heavyweights Trikk, DeWalta, and Melbourne’s very own András, she’s identified herself as a key name within the cities thriving music scene, alongside notables like Toni Yotzi, Jess Zammit and Otologic. Plus, she seriously exudes cool…

Taking a moment off from her usual gigs at New Guernica, and Dr. Morse’s monthly shindig ‘Under The Radar’, Rev Lon is due to warm up the decks for artists Axel Boman, George FitGerald, and Tom Trago at the upcoming smalltown event at Caulfield Racecourse. We asked her to forward us three tracks: The first record she ever bought; a classic track she really rates, and then her current favourite track…

First: Dancing The Whole Night - Systematic

‘It’s tricky for me to remember the first record I ever bought. I went through a big phase of sifting through $10 bins at Alley Tunes when I first started collecting, but I’m pretty sure this is the first one I brought home. Classic 90’s house banger with a big vocal. That record still holds up, although it’s a gained a lot of wear and tear…’

Classic: Feels So Real - Patrice Rushen

‘Being a big lover of funk, soul and disco, a lot of classics come to mind, but nothing tugs at my heart strings more than Feels So Real – Patrice Rushen.’

CURRENT: CHRIMBO 16 - GENE ON EARTH

‘Honestly anything by Gene On Earth at the moment, but if I had to pick one I’d go with this one off of his Top Cat EP- to be fair it’s almost a year old, but that track is everything I love- melodic, plucky and super groovy.’
