THE NEWS OF AXEL BOMAN APPEARING AT SMALLTOWN IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS IS A PARTICULARLY EXCITING PIECE OF INFORMATION, LET ME TELL YOU WHY.

There’s a certain charm about Axel, his productions are intrinsically classy, his sets captivating, and both are dosed in a tonne of flare. Trying too hard isn’t a thing with this guy, his gentle (and playful) nature can be spotted a mile away and you’re immediately given the feeling that “what you see is what you get”… which in my opinion is one of the most underrated characteristics of the human race (woah, getting deep there Form dude, I dunno if I can handle it. HEY, life is deep get used to it).

What I’m trying to say is, listening to Axel Boman’s music makes you think, it makes you look within, and with a certain concoction of psychedelic paraphernalia, you’ll be able to shoot yourself off to some parallel universe and see what’s up.

So on that note of frothing his tunes, I looked a little deeper into three of my favourites…

AXEL BOMAN - NOKTURN (2015)

The ever building howl of Nokturn is enough to send anyone into a bit of a meltdown. Every time it would play in the office one of my colleague would remind us of how much they couldn’t stand it, and fair enough it’s a love or hate record. For me it falls in the love category. There’s no doubt that the six minute buildup is testing, but the payoff is worth it. Listen for yourself and see how your brain copes - good luck.

AXEL BOMAN - PURPLE DRANK (2010)

“I woke up with your name on my lips” was the hook being sung by Axel Boman fans all over the world in 2010, and we’re still singing it today. One of his more successful records (if you judge a tracks success by the amount of YouTube or Spotify plays it gets), this track has stood the test of time. Ahead of the game back when it was released, and still on the cuff of production purity, ‘Purple Drank’ - which was released on DJ Koze’s Pama Records’ is still cruising at #5 on Axel’s overall Beatport top 10.

TALABOMAN - SAMSA (2017)

Talaboman is the project of John Talabot and Axel Boman. Two outstanding artists in their own right, and there was never any doubt that they wouldn’t provide absolute bombs. ‘Samsa’ is one of the two children from the ‘The Night Land’ EP. The track soars for a captivating eleven minutes taking you from the unassuming bystander to a locked and loaded journeyman (or woman). With a multitude of elements building and leaving your field of consciousness, it’s the perfect addition to anybodies collection who likes things a little weird.
