The Motion:Theory:Music co-founder appreciates a good groove…

Katharine Abrahams co-runs the Motion:Theory:Music brand alongside her partner-in-life Ben Abrahams. Asked regularly to create mixes for renowned podcast series featuring the deep, fresh and minimal, Katharine is primarily busy unschooling their 9-year-old boy and toddler, lapping up nature and bending spoons with her chi. (Amazing). Motion:Theory:Music returns this January with international guest Bushwacka, one of the men behind the legendary but defunct London club The End, and producer of many classic tracks alongside cohort Layo. As a primer for their upcoming show Katharine gave us a swift glimpse into her musical world.

CLASSIC TRACK:

depeche Mode - DREAM on (Bushwacka Tough Guy rmx) [2001]

‘We immerse ourselves in this Depeche Mode magic whenever we feel like feeling our feelings. Never be afraid to expand beyond your current framework; your Modus Vivendi may no longer be serving you. Pay attention to your IMPULSES; follow them! Dream on... and let love lift you up and beyond.  What a beautiful remix by Bushwacka! I reach out to anyone touched by his music to connect with us at Radar on January 3.  We have manifested a really inspiring way for us all to start 2020.’

FIRST TRACK:

Brett Johnson - Stucco Homes [2003]

"How did I get here, where is my face?".....I present you with Stucco Homes by Brett Johnson & Dave Barker! This takes me right back to early days.  Ben would drop this at Elsewhere on a Saturday night and it'd immediately connect us all and launch us into our seriously fun dance mode.  If I ever mixed it in, I'd jump straight out onto the dance floor.  It is pure quirk, a most desirable sideways vibration with irresistible hooks; very Motion:Theory. It has a tremendously psychedelic album cover that many would instantly recall: the blue and the red BOUNCE!’

Current:

Lama Brothers - Consenso Parallello (Ema Remedi Remix) [2019]

‘Ema Remedi gave me this piece unreleased as I created my Feeder Sound Romania podcast.  It's blissful and intelligent and the layers speak deeply to me.  It reminds me that the only true moment is now, so to use that moment wisely.   The Lama Brothers are brilliant, and Ema is an amazing producer, remixer and advocate for animal rights. We all need to harmoniously stand up for what we know is right. ‘
