Haai turns an Avery sound squiggle into an epic warehouse rave journey…

It’s no secret that we LOOOOVE Daniel Avery, but not far behind him in our ‘Coolest Motherfuckers On The Planet’-list is HAAi, the Sydney native who escaped the coup from Down Under in search of musical riches in the UK. BOY, did she find it. Not only has she become the coolest cat in London-town, she beat out an all-star cast of contenders last year to take out the Essential Mix of the Year gong. Yup, she is on roll.

HAAi and Avery are easily two of the finest tastemakers in all of techno, but what you might not know is that they are also best friends which really warms our hearts. In fact, Avery just called her ‘the brightest star in the sky right now’. (ED: We would like to send our condolences to the Sun). And as we all know best friends remix each other’s originals. In that spirit, Avery recently announced the upcoming release of a collection of B-sides and remixes taken from his sophomore LP Song For Alpha, and one of those remixes will be by none other than HAAi.

Her take on ‘Time Marked Its Irregular Pulse In Her Eyes’ premiered on XLR8R this morning, turning the original’s avant-garde audio Tetris into an 8-minute industrial warehouse-rave complete with percussive jungle flourishes and an edgy intro. ‘She asked to do something special and a little different for this rework so I gave her all of the vocal parts from the album and she used every one’, Avery admired over Twitter this morning: ‘An artist truly dancing to the beat of their own drum’.

And that beat is pretty fkg exceptional… 👏🏼
