If you are after music to thaw out a cold dancefloor, you know you can reliably reach for anything released on the Quartet Series label…

Founded by the Dutchman Maurits Verwoerd aka Nachtbraker, it has been responsible for showcasing acts like Ponty Mython, Crackazat, Loz Goddard and Gnork, the common thread amongst all of them being warm, feel-good deep house. Of course, Nachtbraker has been getting in on the action too, even releasing his 13-track LP ‘When You Find a Stranger in the Alps’ on the imprint last year. Fluctuating from classic deep house to drum n bass and more, it was easily one of the label's more adventurous 2018 releases. So the news that Quartet has re-visited ‘When You Find a Stranger in the Alps’ with a 4 track remix EP is as welcome as a brand new car given to you by your parents on your 18th birthday.

Danish producer Central has taken one of the album’s lead singles, Flambo, and dialled the knob that says ‘French Filtered House’ all the way to 11. That bassline is dripping in fun and is downright criminal. On the album, the interlude /skit ’LOL’ is filled with hysterical laughing and woozy sax samples, in the hands of Heist producer Fritz Wentink, it all comes together for a sweet breakbeat jam that conjures up coconuts, keytar, and overly big sunglasses: music for adults pretending to be kids at a birthday party.

The small, dark bar vibes of ‘Just Doing My Thang’ is perfect fodder for Ukrainian producer Vakula. He outsmarts the original with an even more mysterious rendition that includes a more binary rhythm, a genuinely weird synth jam, and other soaked effects which seems to disappear and re-appear at will: Dank music for dank people. Rising Australian star Roza Terenzi takes on the phat drum programming of ‘Innaspace’, a track which every 30 seconds seem to stop and start all at the same time before skitz-ing out into a jungle house spasm. Terenzi takes things down a notch with some chilled beats, and an almost soulful beginning which morphs into 4/4 territory punched with computer game-sounding effects and floating 90’s synths. This could easily have slotted into any set during the Summer of Love.
