Bufi Drops New Album 'México 70'

THE SCENE IN MEXICO IS CONTESTING THE BEST OF THEM.

Mexican DJ/producer/live act Mateo Gonzalez aka. Bufi has been releasing records for over a decade, and the topic of discussion today is his new album ‘México 70’, which has been released on Duro (also a Mexican record label).

Spanning across 10 tunes, the LP is reflective of a psychedelic surf rock album that had a baby with 80s nu-wave disco and fancied it’s chances in a wild African dance-battle. Some tracks such as ‘Hillailum (Amazónica)’ features delicious driving drums with sailing bass, and many of the others like title track ‘México 70’ and ‘Máquina del Ritmo’ host Bufi’s own vocals which if you shut your eyes, you can actually hear the waves and smell the weed, man.

Like many dance music producers, Bufi has written an album full of actual songs (well duh dude it’s an album). What I mean is it isn’t a club-ready dance album. It’s been designed to be played live you know… with heaps of real instruments, synthesisers, effect pedals and stuff.

The LP has come during the rise of what we can only assume is the begging of a rock/electro revolution. Which if you’ve been keeping tabs on us, then you’ll know we’ve been keeping tabs on it (i.e. this article and this one). It’s something we’re excited about, and we think you should be too. In closing, Bufi is a lord, listen to ‘México 70’ below.
