Six For One: Dan Duncan from Pig&Dan

‘Being on roll’ comes naturally to Pig&Dan. The duo just seems to turn everything into gold…

Then again, it does take years to attain a level of being proficient at your craft which eventually becomes second nature to you. Whatever that amount in years might be, Pig&Dan has easily passed that marker. Whether it is through their fun-as fuck DJ sets, their productions for esteemed imprints like Cocoon (just to name one), or through their Elevate label which consistently release gold, they can hardly put a foot wrong.

Dan Duncan from Pig&Dan is currently in Australia flying the flag for the duo. Ahead of his final shows, we sent him six questions relating to tracks relevant to his career to date, and he obliged with some very interesting choices…

A track that made me fall in love with techno:

Joey Beltram - Energy Flash

’Upon hearing this for the first time it was love at first sight. This was when I knew that dance music was what I was made for! Energy Flash was responsible for encouraging me to get my dancing shoes on and hit the illegal acid house warehouse raves back in the early years. That was my learning ground, where I studied hard and good hahahahaha! Still, to this day, this track holds its ground as one of the best ever representatives of what was to come.’

A track that we could listen to on repeat forever:

Pig&Dan - Sympathy for the Devil

‘This is not an ego thing but this was a track that just came out of outer space! Pig and I both really never had control over the creating of this track in particular. it was like we channeled some kind of freaky spirits (or maybe we were just both super stoned back then) and we suddenly realized this had come out of us from somewhere, somehow…’

If we could only play you one track from our Elevate label it would be:

Oleg Mass - Terra Nova

‘Oleg Mass is truly on another level in some ways. His ability to create something so unique is damn right inspiring. I want to be Oleg Mass hahahahha !!!!’

If you asked me what Pig’s favourite track of all time is I would say:

The Doors - Riders on the Storm

‘I’ve known Pig for 20 years now and if there is one thing I can say about him it’s that he loves the Doors!’

The very first track we ever released:

Pig&Dan - Angel

‘Our first track as Pig&Dan was ‘Angel’ in 2003. We had just stated to gel in the studio, and Sadie records who back then had some real power in Holland and beyond picked up on us. Me, coming from Drum & Bass, and Igor being a house DJ, it was the first chance we had to mix our influences together - and it was recognized as something that people might actually appreciate ...’

You might find this surprising but I love this track:

Konstantin Sibold - Mutter

‘Mutter: an eclectic record that puts euphoria in its place. A goosebump-inducing anthem that represents generations of those who don’t mind to lose it through music. ‘
