Local Form: Mistral Men

We chat with the Gold Haus residents ahead of a tantalising warehouse party…

Oscar Manning and Charlie McDougall make up the duo of Mistral Men. Their high-energy sets take inspiration from all things Italo, breaks and house, repackaging it into a new tight groove. Not only are they the Gold Haus residents, but they recently started a new project called Carry On which aims to give up and coming DJs an opportunity to play out. They recently returned from an overseas sojourn which saw them perform in Morocco, but if you missed that set you can catch them at many clubs around town ranging from Glamorama to Section 8 to Gasometer. Or you could just go catch them at the upcoming Gold Haus warehouse event (more info below). The duo forwarded us three tracks that is integral to their sound …

Classic track:

New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle (1986)

‘To keep things interesting, each set we aim to play one track that contrasts the others; and this beauty from 1986 always works a treat. This track sums up what we love about New Order, memorable lead synths and pop vibe that guarantees a special dancefloor moment.’

First track:

Agua Re - Holy Dance (1992)

‘This track is the first that springs to mind when we think of starting out as DJs. A nice little groover which is a burst of positivity for the dancefloor. This featured in our first-ever set, playing at a tiny bar in Collingwood in front of a few mates.’

Current track:

Nathan Micay - The Party We Could Have (2019)

Pretty much anything by Nathan Micay gets us going; we love the way he combines the best elements of multiple genres to create emotional masterpieces. This track tends to do what its name suggests - start parties. Blue Spring would have to be our favourite release of 2019, for both listening and dancing purposes.
