NEWS: Melbourne Music Week Announce Dates

Melbourne Music Week will return this coming December… and January and February…

Yes, that is correct, MMW will return with three months worth of free and ticketed events spanning from Wednesday 9 December 2020 to Sunday 28 February 2021. The new timeline is designed to stimulate a somewhat decimated... nay... make that a thoroughly decimated music industry. We are in serious need of council assistance if Melbourne’s to maintain its mantle as Australia's music capital. Thankfully, MMW endeavours to 'support the recovery of the local live music industry at the core of Melbourne Music Week Extended', and 'its artist line up will remain 100 percent local and there will be support opportunities for venues and independent events to participate.' Time to shine local artists.

There will be COVID safe measures in place throughout the series, and at this stage, we can only wonder what that will be. We wouldn't be a surprise if they hand out hazmat suits to all attendees. BUT… the focus at the start of the series will be on outdoor events which most likely will counter us having to wear hazmat suits. So that's good. City of Melbourne CEO Justin Hanney highlighted the significance this year's event will have: ‘Melbourne's live music scene is renowned internationally and employs thousands of people. We really want Melburnians to get out and support our venues this summer because it's been an incredibly tough year.' We somehow think attendance won't be an issue.

Once you get over the news that The City of Melbourne has a CEO, focus on the news that we are actually starting to consider the end of this goddamn dystopian nightmare. Yay. Stay tuned for the release of the entire schedule on 25 November.
