TOP 5: Essential Hard Dance/Trance with Rudosa

No doubt these tunes inspired Rudosa’s new banging three track EP…

Musical cycles are by no means a rarity. It’s always just a matter of time before a new generation discovers the sounds of what their parents were pinging too. It seems the harder-edged dance sounds of the late-90’s and early 2000s booked another moment in the sun - and we’re all for it. It was a crazy time when the tunes were massive epic, things designed to make you rush more than the drugs.

Manchester’s Rudosa is known for his big room techno on labels like Suara and Respekt, cuts which always had a tinge of that old school energy. If he was flirting with those sounds then his new release, the Impetuous EP on his own label Moments in Time, is a full-blown love letter to that era. Think big wrecking ball kicks, strobe-like bass lines, anxious synths and a BPM which is not waiting for anyone. While listening to ‘Impetuous’, you could just imagine fkg ‘aving it large in the old Fridge Nightclub in South Brixton, London. ‘The Last Act’ contains those uplifting trance vibes you can spell out as NRG. Keeping in line with that vibe, we asked Rudosa to forward us five of his essential hard dance/trance tracks - and by god did he deliver…

DJ Misjah & DJ Tim - Access (1995)

‘Absolute trance / dance classic from 1995. So many DJ's are still playing this now which just proves that it's a timeless track and continues to work as well now as it did in 1995. Check out the Justin Bourne & Dynamic Intervention remix too, it bangs!’

BK- Revolution (2002)

’This is 100% in my most ‘underground techno DJs classic’ folder. It never fails to destroy any dancefloor and will continue to be played forever! The hook that drops 4min in is goosebumps central.’

Johann Claesson - Hooliganz On Acid (D&A Remix) (1999)

‘This record is just wow. I closed most closing sets with this in 2019 and when things go back to normal, I’ll probably bust it out again in my sets. When the bassline drops in on this one its full-on tops off stomping it out to close the evening.’

Drax - Amphetamine (1994)

‘1994 Monster from Thomas P Heckman, I was first introduced to this from Eddie Haliwell a few years ago and has since edited this record to give it a bit more of a Techno bite when played out. The original is timeless and find myself listening to this one a lot for inspiration.’

Push - Strange world (2000)

‘This is easily my favourite trance tune ever so many memories from my early clubbing days. Not really a feature in my sets but still love it.’
