FAST 10: Nenagh

Nenagh is making waves…

Slowly making a name for herself as one of the scene's most exciting up & comers, Nenagh is undoubtedly one of our top picks for 2020. Landing bookings alongside PrivacyDJ GigolaToni YotziKiaReptant and Shedbug, her sleek output incorporates rave-ready techno, breaks, acid and drum & bass. A set from Nenagh will satisfy all your cravings for grit and tension. It sounds simultaneous like you're in a dirty 90s Parisian rave surrounded by strobes and Adidas tracksuits, and like you're in a broad daylight police pursuit in the heart of London a lá 'Trainspotting' (again, likely surrounded by Adidas tracksuits). Make no mistake, Nenagh isn't afraid to climb above 140bpm and beyond and take you along for the ride.

As a resident for local crews Sanctum and Vortex, and sets at The Tote, Radar, Colour, Section 8 and Boney, she has been building an impressive profile. Nenagh is making use of her isolation time to lay the foundations for a big return later in the year, and she also allocated time to take a moment and join us for the next instalment of Fast 10.

  1. THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE MY MUSIC:

Personal, multifarious, mood-driven.

2. A FEMALE ARTIST EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW:

Purient! She is such a talent, and is so incredible live. I honestly love all of her songs, and I’m really excited to hear more upcoming stuff from her.

3. A TRACK I’M EMBARRASSED TO LOVE:

Not embarrassed, but Disclosure’s ‘You & Me (Flume Remix)’ goes hard, OR ‘The Middle’ by Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey - banger.

4. THE LOCAL INDUSTRY NEEDS MORE:

It is such a spooky time right now and really heartbreaking to think about the venues we love struggling to keep afloat during the Covid- 19 crisis. I really hope we see some more government support - financial firstly, but also more support in the way of licenses and an acknowledgment of the contribution of the local club scene to Melbourne’s artistic and cultural history.

Also right now, from the community - things have shifted online for now while we can't share things in real life. It’s really uplifting to see, and hopefully, there is a lot more of that to come.

5. MY DRINK OF CHOICE AT A GIG:

I’m usually either sipping on a pale ale or I’ll have my Nalgene by my side.

6. WHAT EMPOWERS ME:

My incredible friends. They have been a consistent source of support for me both with music stuff, and life in general. Their individual attitude and personality make me smile, laugh, and feel good about life on a regular basis. Just this week, a couple of people in our group made a little zine with cheeky quizzes, games and jokes to drop around to other friend’s houses to connect us while we’re isolating. I feel very inspired and grateful to have people close to me who prioritise kindness and silliness.

7. THE BEST GIG I’VE EVER PLAYED:

I had so much fun playing at a recent park party for Spook. I felt relaxed during my set so I was really into it and the crowd was so fun and friendly, there were lots of friends there too so I got to dance with them heaps afterwards!

8. IF I WASN’T IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, I WOULD BE:

A librarian.

9. SOMEONE I LOOK UP TO IS:

Kia. for someone so young, she has achieved so much and done it with such grace and generosity.

10. THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED:

For DJing, keep a straight face when you make a mistake (I usually cringe hard).

For life, treat yourself the way you’d treat a good friend!
