Four tracks of electronic goodness…

You might not know the name of Patrick Holland, but you might know Project Pablo. Under the PP moniker, he has created a care-free strain of house designed to alleviate anxieties and make you dance (have a listen to his recent live mix recorded for RA at Pitch Music & Arts). However, a new decade, new look, and as he recently explained to us, the time has come for a creative change: 'Going back to my own name is something I've wanted to do for a while. I started Project Pablo when I was like 20-21, and I'm 28 now - so I don't want to stick with just one trajectory that I invented when I was younger and a bit naïve.'

And here we are, the four-track Simstim EP. If his debut EP as Patrick Holland is anything to go by, the Canadian has matured quite a bit. Released on his own Verdicchio Music Publishing, the EP is a definite change of pace from Project Pablo. The release is named after a futuristic piece of tech found in the classic sci-fi novel Neuromancer, 'a technology that broadcasts or records someone's sensoriums, experiences and sensory input and broadcast it live so that other persons elsewhere can experience them…' Well, in the Simstim EP Holland is more cerebral and introspective than ever and you can almost feel the energy between him and his hardware. The whole EP deserves your attention but the title track, especially, is a beautiful slice of electronic music built from automated synths that wouldn't sound out of place in the Kompakt catalogue.
