Local Form: Brixx

For fans of dark, brooding techno and electro…

Brixx is a Melbourne-based producer, composer, and DJ, influenced by cult cinema, electro, minimalism, post-punk, techno and EBM. Her music is underpinned by a darkness that slowly bubbles to the surface, acting as a lens through which to explore the human condition, gender, and sexuality. She recently launched the night Short Circuit, a platform for DJs and live acts to play dark electronica.

Corporate Punishment, her debut on Parfe Records, is a collage of samples, spoken word, and keys. For a taster listen to the single ‘Büro’, a pounding exercise in jackhammer beats and fight-or-flight synths that will sound absolutely huge on any dancefloor.

Classic Track

ministry - over the shoulder [1986]

‘I play a lot of modern electronica in DJ sets, but I can’t go past early Ministry. This track just has such a killer opening so it’s great for mixing. Something about the abrasiveness of that chaotic section of sampling, which then gives way to that warm synth kinda makes me melt.’

first Track

Gerard McMann - Cry Little Sister (The Lost Boys Soundtrack) (1987)

‘I can’t remember the first electronic track I bought but this was the first song that really influenced my sound on a subconscious level. I had it on tape when I was 16 and completely destroyed it. The electronic drums, heavy reverb and dark brooding intensity of the whole thing seem to be prevalent in a lot of stuff I like now.’

Current Track

Sarin – Repression (Privacy remix)

‘This remix is so layered and complex without ever becoming overwhelming or too much. I particularly like the way he’s deconstructed the original samples and used them to create percussive elements to layer the track, completely reworking it into an electro masterpiece.’
