LOCAL FORM: Big-Mac

Big Mac hi res.jpg

Big-Mac has invested himself densely into Melbourne's late-night dance music scene...

Better known to his parents as Jimmy McLindin, he is the Director of President Press and chief organiser of your Thursday Night Rave Ritual at New Guernica. With a passion for 80s synth-pop and appetite for eccentric sounds, Big-Mac delivers rollercoaster performances. He exudes an obscure, diverse and experimental flair in his pursuit for unpredictable soundscape. His bookings includes support slots for the likes of Dusky, Franck Roger, Jacques Renault, Joey Negro, Kris Baha, Mark Blair, RSS Disco, YokoO and more. He has also played decidedly honoured shows at both Living Room Festival and Let Them Eat Cake. If you're feeling peckish for something different, it's worth grabbing a bite.

First

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (1983)

‘Honourable mention has to go to Gesaffelstein's debut album Aleph which is probably what got me thinking about DJ'ing, but my original exposure to dance music had to be through 80's synth-pop and rock. Sweet Dreams (are made of these) has genuinely stood the test of time. The heavy synth classic still igniting dance floors far and wide today. Annie Lennox is an absolute Queen.’

Classic

Talk Talk - It’s My Life (1984)

‘It is always difficult to pin down my front runner for all-time classic track, but this song has seen heavy rotation as of late. A great mood changer and an undeniable shower anthem. I remember closing New Guernica with this song once, and I honestly don't think I'd rather hear anything else when the lights come on.’

Current

Moving Still - Bint al Sa7ra (2020)

For me this song has all the wow factor, I'm an absolute sucker for an arpeggiated bassline and Moving Still always exudes a quirky middle eastern vibe. Something out of the ordinary that will be in my arsenal for a long time to come. Will 100% be in my bag for my first gig back (after COVID).
