SIX FOR ONE: Luke Alessi

SIx for one with an Australian producer on the rise…

Don’t fret if you're not familiar with Luke Alessi. It feels like the Melbourne-based artist made quite a name for himself in a relatively short space of time. But don’t be fooled by limiting concepts like spacetime and whatnot. A cursory listen at his discography betrays a highly polished studio engineer, an artist who has obviously burned the midnight candle tuning kicks and eq’ing hats. The hard work is finally paying off and he recently signed the single ‘Adumu’ to German maestro Oliver Koletzki’s Still Vor Talent label. Like the African dance it’s possibly named after, it’s hard to deny its pneumatic energy. His upcoming release on Mobilee Records, a collaboration with I’m-gonna-get-myself-connected artist Stereo MCs, confirms his quest to conquer German labels is, indeed, on the right trajectory. To celebrate all this wondrous news, he is in the middle of a run of national dates which include an upcoming Melbourne show at Bourke Street Courtyard. We put him through the paces with six questions about some of his pivotal musical moments. It’s good…

Banger memories

Deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember (2008)

‘Still a ripper.’

Surprising treasure

Elvis Presley - Fever (1960)

’ The little fills in this song are just cheeky as hell.’

2020 lockdown safe space

Sonique - It Feels So Good (2000)

‘Literally, any time I need a vibe check this came on.’

The band

KISS - Love Gun (1977)

‘Mmmm, tough to pick a favourite but one of my all-time fav bands growing up was Kiss. My aunt took me to see them when I was about 12 which was insane! One of my favourite tracks is Love Gun.’

The electronic

Stimming - Prepare (2016)

‘Again so many to choose from but I have to go with Prepare by Stimming. Whenever I need a source of inspiration, he is my go-to. Out of this world.’

Luke Alessi - 'I Just Wanted To Tell You’ EP

‘If I had to choose out of my currently released tracks, I would have to say either of the tracks from my I Just Wanted To Tell You EP on RADIANT or my remix of Lastlings ‘Deja Vu’. Something came through me writing these particular songs that are very hard to replicate. They just hit differently. ‘
