Purveyor of all things dubbed out, experimental, and bass-heavy dance music, Roy Blues’ newest release is no exception. The Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist is proving he’s one to watch in 2021 (don’t act like we didn’t warn you), dropping his latest release, ‘Subterrane’, the title track from his forthcoming EP of the same name.
Hot off the tail from releasing his debut EP Brain Wax on Gallery Recs in 2020, the dance music auteur is carving out a secure space for himself in the local scene with his meticulously crafted space-age productions. Describing this latest release as the audible embodiment of ‘landing in a rover on an alien planet’, ‘Subterrane’ confidently swings its door open to this unfamiliar new galaxy, playfully relishing an expanse of glitched-out modulators, laser-sharp percussive sequences, and an ominous ambience throughout.
Following a string of successful live showcases that have gained the attention from Bonobo, Richie Hawtin, CC:Disco! and RUFUS DU SOL, Roy Blues is certainly our pick for one of Australia’s most exciting new creatives.
