MUSIC: Start Local Imprint Continues To Impress

There is a delightful rumble up north that goes by the name of Start Local Recordings. With an ear for unpretentious but infectious dance music, the Sydney-based label is yet to miss the mark after six releases. And with their upcoming SLRVA006 EP, a four-track release that will reserve a long space in any self-respecting DJ’s record box, that statement is in safe hands.

French producer Romain FX delivers a summer breeze in the form of ‘Ethereal Emotions’, a delightful slice of piano house that isn’t afraid to be happy. Semantically and musically that ties in nicely with priyas fantastic ‘Happier Together’ - and with ‘together’ we can only imagine they refer to the multitude of genres on show here: a splattering of garage, a touch of electronica, and a generous serving of analogue house. If you’re looking for a palate cleanser that can double as a set opener, then look no further: priya’s gotcha you covered. On the ‘The Breakaway’, a cosmic cut accentuating all the best parts of house, the production from Sydney-based Earnest J is infused with an end-of-lockdown energy threatening to explode. And finally, Joe Morris rounds out the package with ‘Light Beams’, a confidant number featuring a slightly drunk melody threatening to pull you from your feet (in a fun way). If you're new to the crew, now is as good a time as any to Start Local.
