FORM 010: Dr Chicken Gristle

In this day and age of social media and career DJs, Dr Chicken Gristle is that rare type of creative that is hard to find: a producer who relishes the moment and let whatever ideas come forth flow like a fountain. He wields his creativity like a sword, unconcerned about what stands in his way as he chops his way to victory. As soon as you think you have him figured out, he'll drop an inspired bomb that is hard to ignore. Filled with WTF moments, his recent 'FLOATING AS A LIFELESS VESSEL SUSPENDED IN THE AIR' EP (check our write up here) is a proud statement of a very provocative producer. Left turns and sudden movements might be a trademark of his work, but don't be scared away. His gristly chicken centre contains the beating heart of a mischievous raver, someone who knows that dance music shouldn't be the serious business it has become. And as you lose yourself in his excellent 90 minute Form mix, hopefully, you too will remember that life doesn't have to be the serious bizznizz we find ourselves in…

Hiya. How are things currently for you?

Hello! Great thanks, I'm keeping well, keeping fresh.

Nice one. Good to hear. You have obs been busy with new music too. Your new track ‘Ray’ (available as a free download from here) is a slow descent into a ketamine hole. Very cool. What do your parents think about the music you produce?

Or some kind of slow descent into a damp portal inside an abandoned Smorgy's. Remember Smorgy's? As for my parents, I'm not sure they know I make music, I'll FedX them a copy of Chicken Gristle's Greatest Hits.

Lel. Smorgy’s. That’s very early ‘00s of you - but what is your hot tip for 2022?

Look after yourself, if need be, shed your skin. x

Oh for sure. We’ve shed tons of post-covid skin. Pretty keen to listen to your mix hey. What can you tell us about your Form podcast? And which track should we watch out for?

Drifting across a spectrum of conventionality the mix showcases some varied interests bound together predominantly by space and texture. The mix opens with entries of a more leftfield nature, before moving towards deep and progressive dance-oriented music. I try not to hover around the one genre or cluster of vibes/atmospheres for too long, with a lot of deviation across the 90 mins. Standout tracks for me would be the opener 'Plight (The Spiraling of Winter Ghosts)’ by David Sylvian and Holger Czukay, the segment I believe around the 40 to 50-minute mark where I delve into some gold from the likes of Hypnus Records. Definitely a lot different from a lot of the music I produce, but all material that inspires me in some way shape or form.

Nice. Very bloody nice. Thx.
