If you present Nick Warren with a list of ’10 things you should do as a producer/DJ before you hang up your headphones’, he would easily tick off every item on there.

..

One of the original superstar DJs alongside Carl Cox, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold etc ✔️ One of the first residents at the original superclub Cream ✔️ Official tour DJ for Massive Attack ✔️ The DJ with the most Global Underground CDs to his name ✔️
Tour the world 5 times over as a working DJ ✔️ Tour the world performing as a live act (Way out West alongside Jody Wisternoff) ✔️ Remix pop artists (his remix for Lana Del Ray) ✔️A&R for highly influential record label (Hope Recordings) ✔️
Run international events/entertainment brand (The Soundgarden) ✔️ Be a decent human while you do all of this (he is)✔️✔️

Yeah, no arguments here, the man is a pioneer.

Ahead of Nick Warren’s return to Melbourne next week, we asked the scene legend to show us six tracks that are close to his heart…

This track makes me reminisce on the time when I was the tour DJ for Massive Attack:

Leftfield - Inspection Check One

‘This was the opening track of my sets and always got the crowd rocking. Comes from their incredible first album.’

When I think of Global Underground I think of this track:

Ulrich Schnauss - Nobody's Home

‘On my favourite of all the GU albums I did. It is simply a brilliant piece of music, the break beat sounds ace and its a brilliant melody, I was so into this track.’

My biggest track for 2018 so far is:

Black 8 & Arrab - Sandwaves

‘This has been so big in my sets, in fact I was playing this for over a year before it was released on The Soundgarden and it has smashed the dancefloor every time.’

This Way Out West track has a special meaning to me:

way out west - tales of the rabid monk

‘There are so many to choose from but "Tales Of The Rabid Monk" is a personal favourite of ours, there always seems to be a bit of magic when Jody and I get together to make music.’

The first time I heard this track I knew i wanted to be a DJ:

Orbital - Chime

‘I had already started DJing but this was the track that also made me want to start making electronic music.’

If I could recommend you only one Downtempo track it would be:

Holed Coin - Uiaju (Rodrigo Gallardo Remix)

‘All the best tracks have a simplicity to them, this is a perfect example of a killer melody and gorgeous chords working in perfect harm…’
