this will be Nina Kraviz’s first Melbourne club performance since 2013…

The Pitch Music & Arts sideshow hits keep on rolling in. Following up from the news that a triple header of techno titans will hit The Bottom End, we have another announcement to induce Ed McMahon-type reactions. Coming in strong from performing in Moyston will be arguably the world’s most famous former dentist, Nina Kraviz, and New York tastemaker Aurora Halal.

After blowing up to the point where she pretty much became the exclusive domain of Melbourne festivals, Kraviz will finally play her first local club show since 2013. In that time she has been a regular visitor to our shores…

FLASHBACK: Who can forget that time when she headlined the smalltown event in St. Kilda foreshore and delivered a selector masterclass with a set of classic techno, ONE track featuring a drum n bass interlude, rave and overall just sick tunes. So good in fact that some people demanded their money back… wait what? You know, they expected ‘techno’, and she didn’t play ‘techno’. We were there for that show and can 100% confirmed it was rocking set. And if you are fan of what Kraviz does, especially her Trip label, you will know that she is an electronic music connoisseur. But if you’re knowledge of her is limited to just clicking like on her social media photos and then expecting a 3 hour Drumcode set, yeah, ya gonna be disappointed. And the trolls did what good trolls do, they trolled hard. Through social media. We mean, they made so much noise they forced Kraviz to respond. So much so it made news with global media like New Yorker to Vice, making Melbourne punters look like the ultimate ignorant dickhead. Fuck me. Beyond the Valley has a lot to answer for.

Aurora Halal was last seen in Australia when she featured on Adelaide’s Unsound Festival back in 2017. Since then her reputation has increased tenfold - and deservedly so too. In a scene where standing out can be hard, she manages to produce a sound that is uniquely Aurora Halal. Check her Resident Advisor podcast from last year, an exquisite ride through broken beats, spacey techno and psychedelia, it was easily one of 2019’s best mixes.

Shoot. Aside from dickheads complaining about techno DJ’s not playing ‘techno’, we have it pretty good in Melbourne.
