Rarely will a new artist come out of the gates running. Maybe their production isn’t quite there yet; perhaps they don’t have the tools to express themselves; they’re not sure which track to release or they don’t have the support around them. Hii Spirits aka. Jack Arentz (Kult Kyss, Haxx) has effortlessly cleared all hurdles to launch his solo career in style. If someone told me Bicep wrote ‘Get Better’ I’d probably say “yeah that makes sense”.
The track begins with the tightest percussion one could ask for, shortly followed by a consistent high note which glues the entire experience together. In pursuit are warm pads and the hook, a toned-down vocal loop which will suck you in - and once it’s done with your consciousness, you won’t know what day it is.
In totality, ‘Get Better’ perfectly bundles every positive emotion available to the human psyche and sticks you right in the feels. If you tend to get a bit emotional at festivals and tell your friends how much you love them, this is the tune to soundtrack that moment. It wouldn’t be out of place on the main stage, and it wouldn’t be out of place at home on a Sunday afternoon (which might have to do for now). ‘Get Better’ is the essence of immaculate production, partnered with highly skilled song-writing.
As an artist, Hii Spirits has effortlessly displayed his knowledge and talent with his first single, and we should all be watching his next move very, very closely.
