For Fans of contemplative dance music…

You can add the name of Expo 88, AKA Luke Cuerel, to the impressive production line of producers making their way out of the Sunshine State. Cuerel is a jazz saxophonist and composer who can effortlessly move from ambient and textural compositions to dark and beat-driven. It's a talent that lends to melodic textures and movements that feel mature and warm. As evident by his debut release, it's a singular sound that feels comfortingly familiar.

The Refractions EP is a captivating three-track release that fans of well-crafted electronica will devour. Nowhere does that shine more brightly than the first single 'Refractions', an exquisite slice of electronic music where his training as a jazz saxophonist is on full display with all the parts almost jamming to their own tune, and melodic elements shimmer like... um... refracted lights on a gentle moving body of water. He flexes his musical chops on' Passengers' with an organic sounding exercise that utilises saxophone and cool drumming that feels covered in a haze of THC smoke. It is the sort of downtempo gear that fans of Ninja Tunes would appreciate. Rounding out the EP is 'Thicker Than Water', a lovely ambient piece that somehow feels like an orchestra tuning their instruments simultaneously whilst staying in harmony. The whole release is music for connoisseurs and tokers alike. Watch this space.
