Rino’s sophomore release might even be better than his debut…

Last year we covered Rino’s debut single, the gorgeous ‘Disparity’. We loved it so much we invited him to mix the inaugural edition of our Form podcast series (if you haven’t listened to it as yet, please remedy that right now). Yeah, it is safe to say we are fans, but even we weren’t ready for the release of his sophomore release ‘Beauty Wells. It’s an incredible piece of music that deserves a bigger audience.

Rino has crafted a single here which, like the human ego, is illuminated by fragility. And if you consider the track is a mediation on ‘self-love and personal identity’ that statement makes sense. There is a warmth inflecting the slow beats and bass that feels as comforting as a winter’s blanket, and sitting atop it all are shimmering melodies that would make Four Tet proud. But it is the yearning vocal sample calling out to someone, anyone, that drives the melancholy home.’Beauty Wells’ feels so intricate you wouldn’t be surprised if Rino put this track together with jeweller glasses. It is reflective music for reflexive times.

Also released with the single is a stunning video that beautifully mirrors the single. The cinematographer Jesse Gohier-Fleet and creative and movement director Zoee Marsh directs dancer Melissa Yvonne Pham as she conveys the inner struggle and beauty of being human through dance. It is hypnotic, beautiful and sad. If you like journaling, lighting candles and listening to Radiohead then this is for you. And spread the word; Rino is legit.

Beauty Wells is out now via MFNE.
